Maintenance, Cleaning and Overhaul of IKO Bearings

Writer: Eric Bearing Limited

IKO bearings require us to carry out daily maintenance and overhaul during use. Today we will take a look at relevant information in this regard.

1. Maintenance of IKO bearings

IKO bearings are an important basic mechanical component. Because the machinery and working environment of IKO rolling bearings vary greatly, special attention should be paid to the maintenance of the bearings to increase the service life of IKO bearings.

(1) Rust prevention of IKO bearing products

The bearing is a precision mechanical part. In order to prevent the bearing from rusting during transportation or storage under various environmental conditions, it must be rust-proofed. Generally, the anti-rust period of IKO bearings is one year, and the anti-rust period of bushings with higher requirements is two years. Bearings cannot be used during the rust prevention period due to various reasons. When the antirust period of the bearing is reached, the original antirust agent should be removed.

(2) Packaging of IKO bearings

Due to the many circulation links of IKO bearings, products are easily damaged by environmental conditions such as snow, dust, temperature, corrosive substances, etc. during these circulation processes. Therefore, the packaging of bearings is required to have multiple performances, such as anti-vibration, anti-moisture, anti-collision, anti-corrosion, and pressure resistance.    IKO NATB5909 bearings online , pls click here :

(3) Storage of IKO bearings

There should be no rain in the warehouse, the bearing storage location should avoid direct sunlight, indoor air should be circulated, but there must be no dust intrusion. Ventilation equipment and temperature adjustment equipment should be installed in the warehouse. The warehouse should be kept dry, the relative temperature should be controlled below 80%, the indoor temperature should be controlled at about 25 degrees, and there should be no large temperature changes day and night. If the temperature is too low, the rust releasing agent is easy to crystallize and crack, resulting in the corrosion of some exposed metals. If the temperature is too high, the rust releasing agent will easily lose (evaporate) or deteriorate, and the large temperature difference between day and night will easily cause moisture to condense on the bearing surface and cause corrosion. In the winter season, IKO bearings should not be stored near the heater. The ground in the warehouse should be hard and not easy to dust. Bearings should not be stored in the same warehouse as corrosive materials such as acids, alkalis, salts, chemical raw materials, and materials with high moisture content. The warehouse around IKO bearings is not susceptible to harmful gases.

2. Cleaning of IKO bearings

When cleaning and overhauling the bearing, the first step to be done is to record the appearance of the bearing and confirm the residual amount of lubricant. After sampling the remaining lubricant for inspection, we can start cleaning the IKO bearing. The cleaning agent of the bearing mainly uses ordinary gasoline or kerosene.

IKO bearing cleaning can be divided into rough cleaning and fine fine cleaning. During rough cleaning, the container used for the bearing needs to be placed with a metal mesh, so that the bearing will not come into contact with the dirt in the container again after cleaning. During rough cleaning, you can use a brush to remove the grease and adhesion on the bearing. During the process, you should avoid rotating the IKO bearing with dirt, otherwise it will easily damage the rolling surface of the bearing.

After rough cleaning, IKO bearings can enter the fine washing process, that is, the bearing is rotated in the cleaning oil for fine washing, and the remaining dirt on it is carefully removed. In the process of fine washing, the cleaning oil should be cleaned .

3. Overhaul of IKO bearings

After the bearings are cleaned, a detailed inspection should be carried out to determine the extent of damage, mechanical properties, and other service conditions of the bearings and whether they can continue to be used. The contents of the inspection mainly include the condition of the rolling surface, the rolling surface and the mating surface, the wear of the cage, the damage on the dimensional accuracy of the bearing, and the clearance of the bearing.

After some specific defects appear in IKO bearings, it can be judged that they cannot continue to be used, and new bearings must be replaced. These situations include:

(1) There is obvious creep on the inner and outer rings of IKO bearings;

(2) IKO bearings have obvious discoloration due to overheating;

(3) Once there are cracks, notches and breaks on the inner ring, outer ring, rolling elements and cage of IKO bearings;

(4) IKO bearings have stuck, rust, indentation and scratches on the rolling surface, ribs and rolling elements.
