The Swedish bearing manufacturer SKF has decided to invest in an expansion of its warehouse in Callao, Peru. The year 2020 ended with a -6% drop in sales in the region compared to 2019, while the current indicators show already an increase of the sales with +20% in comparison with 2020. This signals the end of the negative consumption trends, which was a result of the pandemic, in the region.
SKF intends to renovate its Callao warehouse to expand its area by 40% and thus will increase supplies to Peru, Bolivia and Chile. As part of the reconstruction, a new warehouse system will be created to optimize warehousing space per square meter. For this, an electric vertical lift is planned to be installed. Peru will be the second country in Latin America where SKF will have such equipment, after Brazil. The lift will double the space for small products and allow a semi-automatic packaging process. The project is planned to be completed in September and will allow SKF to offer a broader range of products for its Peruvian and Bolivian customers. SKF’s operations in Peru account for 42% of its business from the Andean region, which also includes Chile (43%) and Bolivia (15%).
