Seiko Japan has announced that it has developed a new method of manufacturing high-strength materials and using cold-roll forming to manufacture bearings for wheel hub assemblies for passenger cars. Compared with hot forging, cold forging can increase strength, but requires several times of forming pressure during processing. The company uses the "side extrusion method" to form large-area flanges with a small pressure to achieve forming at a low pressure.

Compared with the previous hot forging, cold-rolled forming can improve the strength due to improved work hardening and surface finish.
